Education
and Training
Continuing
Legal Education - To ensure that the profession maintains excellence of service to clients, and knowledge of law and legal practice, the Society provides a comprehensive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Program. The programme is based on seminars and workshops given
by experts from within the profession and further afield. Although CLE
is not mandatory in the ACT, it is in some other states, notably New
South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. Attendance at CLE seminars
in the ACT qualifies for points in New South Wales.
The Society organises its CLE programme through the CLE Committee, whose members are appointed from the general membership. The members of the Committee give their time freely in the interest of the professional development of their colleagues. The Committee meets regularly to organise the seminar programme of professional development. The fees are kept as low as possible to encourage attendance. The Society's CLE programme is continually monitored for relevance and effectiveness.
Young Lawyers Lecture
Series - A series of lectures is organised by the Young Lawyers Committee to educate newly admitted lawyers on the basics of law and legal practice.
The emphasis is on the practical aspects of advising, litigation and client relations. Held over the lunch hour period, the cost is kept to a minimum to encourage young lawyers to attend.
Law Office Managers Forum
Seminars - A training
programme is run to provide guidance and education to practice managers
on aspects of running a legal practice. The programme covers such topics
as court procedures, claims procedures, conveyancing, leasing, and wills
and probate.
